Ingenua Shadesail - Rectangle

Posting date: 5th May 2011 17:14

Q - Can you help me with which Ingenua Shadesails will fit the area in the image attached. I think I will need a pair of Rectangles

A The rules of thumb for working out areas/fixings which you find mentioned in the attached:

2.1 Allow an extra metre for the size of the shade sail eg 4m triangle, needs a 5m triangular area.

2.2 Each fixing needs to be positioned so that the rope extending from it will bisect the sail corner - known as the "bisecting line"

2.3 If you are hanging 2 shade sails from one fixing point, then you will need to use a vertical pole

2.4 If you hang 2 sails from one fixing point, you will still need to create 2 bisecting lines for each sail, created by how you set up the other fixing points.

2.The rectangular shadesails come in 3 x 4m and 3 x 5m. Here are some specifications of the fixings:

Ingenua Poles and Ground Fixings

Ingenua Wall Fixings

I think that your best bet is 2 x 3x5m Rectangular shadesails, set with the short sides attached to the house above the height of the folding door. You would need x 4 fixing points on this wall - which should be strong, not just a stud wall. You can buy either your own wall hooks or buy a some fixed wall kits (see link above) and I would suggest overlapping the 2 fixing points in the middle to limit the rain that gets through to the table underneath. The total width of the combined sails would be 6m, so you should have enough to overlap. Both sails can be angled so that there is run off to the long sides of the patio, one sail angled to the gutter on the garage(?) roof at one side. This shade sail should be the higher one, I think, so that you get run off more easily into the gutter. On the other side, near the fence, your BBQ will need to be outside of the shadesail for fire safety reasons. The rain run off will fall into the patio floor.

At the far end of the patio, you will need 4 x ground fixings - either a deckmount if you paving is strong and won't get pulled up by wind force on the shadesail, or 4 x inground fittings which are set in concrete - see attached instructions. Plus of course, x 4 poles. You can have either vertical or 75 degree angled fittings - it is entirely up to you. See p7 onwards on the attached 2011 brochure. You could of course, angle the shadesails slightly to this end, so that there is run off away from the folding doors.

Let me know if you need any more information.

Best wishes - Claire Hodgson
