Do you have a Wind Resistant Ultra Strong Parasol?

Posting date: 10th January 2011 14:10

Q - Hello, we are a cafe in a park and have a large garden for which we would like to purchase 2 umbrellas. We are potentially looking at your Serengeti Parasols but would like, if possible further information on these. We are very exposed and plan to leave these outside for the dog walkers etc in the bad weather, hence the need for sturdy and windproof umbrellas. Please advise, many thanks, Wendy

A - Dear Wendy Thankyou for your enquiry. I confirm that the most wind resistant parasols are:

  • 1. Fixed to the ground - either inground concreted, or bolted to decking/concrete. We can supply either of these bases, although from what we discussed, only the deckmount option would be suitable for you.
  • 2. Centre pole - centre pole parasols are inherently more wind resistant to cantilever parasols
  • 3. As a second best alternative a centre pole can be supported through a table or with an extra heavy mobile base

We discussed 2 parasols:

The Serengeti Cyclone Parasol

This is made for windy location and has reinforced parts and an extra heavy base. Another customer is interested in a deckmount for this, and I attach an image of this - I am just awaiting pricing details from my supplier. The only size of parasol that is likely to have a suffciently high closed clearance for you, if you use the parasol through a table, is the 4.0m Octagonal - the closed clearance is 82cm. In terms of colour, we can get colours, other than the Ecru in the link below - they are special order items (lead time to be confirmed) and both links are below:

The Tradewinds Classic Parasol

These a very good quality commercial parasols. I have sold them to customers with windier locations, with the advice that they need to be more "wind managed" than the Cyclone. This means that the parasols will need to be closed more frequently that the Cyclone, when the wind gets too much. They also have replaceable components throughout, should you get a break. And a number of pub customers have also bought an extra locking devise which locks the parasol into the bases. The closed clearance on these parasols is listed on each product. The deckmount option on these parasols is not listed on the site, but I can get these for you and they are not expensive. If you click through the images on any of the products, the deckmount is basically the triangular metal piece which is shown bolted into a concrete base. In terms of colours, each product lists the usual stock colours. Attached is a swatch for some special order ones - lead time to be confirmed.

Tradewinds Parasols

Lastly, I would say that ANY parasol needs to be wind managed. If you are leaving the parasols out all night, you need to close them at night, in case high wind occurs. It is common sense really, and the stronger the parasol, the heavier the base, the fewer ocassions wind will be a problem.

In terms of viewing parasols, I will see if there are any public places in your area which have the parasols and come back to you. Click next photo on any product on the site to see more images.

Let me know if you need any more information - Best wishes Claire
