Can you fit a Serengeti Cyclone Parasol to a decking area?
Posting date: 28th October 2010 13:49
Thankyou for your phone call yesterday morning. I confirm, following what you said about your windy location, that the best bet for you is the Serengeti Cyclone Parasol. This is the strongest parasol that we do (and therefore the most wind resistant) bar the Vortex but there is no way that you can fix a Vortex to a decking area. The bottom line is that any parasol needs "wind management" as wind can get too much for any parasol, even the Vortex. But as you go up the scale to the stronger parasols, you increase the amount of wind the frame and canopy will take. I cannot promise that you will never have any breakages, but I can say that you are significantly reducing the number you will suffer, if you buy the Cyclone rather than the cheap parasols which you have been using to date. In addition, the Cyclone has replaceable components throughout so if you do get a break of a strut, we can replace just that strut, for example.
Regarding the deckmounting option, your decking would need to be reinforced underneath to give the parasol real strength and avoid the planks being pulled up by the force of the wind on the parasol. Ideally, the deckmount should be attached to the deck subframe for maximum "hold". A permenant fixing like a strong deckmount also significantly reduces the chances of wind damage which frequently occurs when parasols are blown over and then blown along ground etc.
I am still waiting for details from the manufacturers of how much a deckmount option would be on the Cyclone, and will forward these to you as soon as I hear. Attached is the specification details of the 3.5m square.
Regarding size and use through a table, these parasols are too big to close over a table, so as discussed, you would need to place a table to one side of the pole. And in terms of where you site the parasol, you need to position it so that there will be no impeding doors and windows (see the clearance and heights on the attached).
I will email you again, as soon as I know about the deckmount. Here is the link to the product details on the site:
Best wishes - Claire
Sorry to take a while to come back to you regarding the deckmount. I have only just heard from my suppliers. Attached are the instructions - I don't yet have the prices as this is a special order item and no one has asked for it before. Will forward these to you ASAP. The attached does show how the parasols need substantial support underneath the deck. Claire
