How do you measure the diameter on a round Tradewinds Parasol?

This is a good question, as the answer is not as obvious as you would think on first glance.
The one line answer is that a round Tradewinds parasol is measured by the diameter, across the middle. But of course, parasols are not actually round, but hexagonal or octagonal. In fact, the diameter is measured from strut end to strut end, across the centre of the parasol.
The diameter from a mid point between strut ends, to the opposite mid point between strut ends, is shorter because the curve of the circle is "cut" by the fabric being stretched in a straight line between the struts.
Finally, please note that the diameter is also based on the parasol being fully open. A Tradewinds parasol has a number of differently positioned holes under the central hub, through which you put the pin in order to hold the parasol open. You get the 3.2m diameter when the parasol is opened at the top hole.
All this is only really important, of course, if you happen to have very exact fitting requirements in terms of space and/or shade.
