Can I use existing concrete foundations as part of the concrete base for a Paraflex inground anchorage?

Posting date: 7th March 2010 16:30

Normally, to fix the Paraflex inground anchorage, you dig a pit 50x50cm, with 45cm depth. This is then filled with concrete and the inground anchorage is set in the centre, with the top flush to the ground.

A customer wanted to fix in the ground fitting as close as possible to an existing wall with concrete foundations and asked if he could reduce the size of the recommended pit accordingly.

Both his and my instinct was that you could use the existing concrete foundations as part of the support for the parasol base, provided that the wall foundations were of sufficient depth and strength of concrete. The new pit and concrete, into which the inground base was to be set, also need to be flush against the existing foundation.

I checked this with the UK importers of Paraflex, and they agreed with me, that they were of the same view.
